Escape

Many would claim that the Routeburn track surpasses even the world renowned Milford. If you follow the rainfall in Fiordland at all and considering the Milford requires booking months in advance I think you would come round to their way of thinking very fast. This view is a stone's throw from the Lake MacKenzie hut. After a dip in this glacial lake I have a new respect for hypothermia.

Don't wake me up

This image from 2008 is one of the first landscapes I photographed. It was from a week of amazing skies. At the time I didn't realise how lucky I'd been. Some of the finest real estate in New Zealand has been built on the shores of Lake Hayes. Who wouldn't want this view? There's a breathtaking but easy walk around the lake that takes about 2 hours.

Free Spirit

Photographers travel across the world to photograph this famous tree on the shores of Lake Wanaka. This viewpoint requires a moderate lake level, wading into the icy cold water and positioning ones camera to skim just above the surface of the lake.

Ablaze

Although I visit Hope Island often I will be lucky to see a sunset as spectacular as this again. I had watched the clouds build up to this grand finale all afternoon.

The long exposure evokes a sense of tranquility whilst enriching the autumn colours. It creates a quieter space from which the tree can shine.
